Description
Pair of portrait miniatures painted with watercolors on an ivory base. The sitters are Lewis (1786-1858) and Sarah Turnbull Stirling (1789-1875) of Wakefield Plantation (c. 1836) in St. Francisville, Louisiana. Both are depicted from the bust up and are turned slightly toward the their left. Lewis is depicted wearing a white cravat, black waistcoat and black coat. Sarah is depicted wearing a white short-sleeved gown with a ruffle around the V-neck line. Miniatures are currently set in a metal double frame with a hinge in between which is hung in a small frame with pink/red velvet lining.
