Description
Mahogany ottoman with back. The base is four rails secured together in an unknown manner and glue blocked in the corners with a single vertical glue block. The rails then rest on two small blocks joined in the corner and resting on four small block feet. The feet are dovetailed in the corners and hold part of the weight of the piece. The dovetails are visible on the back feet but have been veneered over on the front. Six strips of wood form the base of the seat and rest on two rails, one in the front and one in the back, that are nailed to the front and back base rails. The blocks that form the feet rest on four, possibly original but probably replacement, casters. Each one of the wooden seat bottom pieces has one, two or three holes in the base that likely relate to its upholstery. The side bracket feet and the front bracket feet have S-scrolls cut into them. A rail is formed between the base of the upholstery and the top of the base with a cyma molded strip of mahogany. The back is attached to the base in a manner attached to the base that is not visible. It is two side rails and a crest rail with mahogany veneer and a cyma curve and angled corner blocks.
