Hand-colored stipple and line engraving of a religious woman freeing three Native Americans in a landscape with three palm trees. The French inscription reads: "ATALA DELIVRE CHACTAS./ Chelas fils d'Outalissi Chef des guerriers Natchez, Nation puissante d'une partie de l'Amerique Seprentrionale (aujourd'hui nommee Louisiane) etait lombe an pouvour des Muscogules et des Siminoles peuples rivaux de ces memes Contrees qui avant la coutume barbare de bruler leurs prisonniers de guerre.
