Dispute between Etienne Mazureau and J.H. de Mahy Desmontils, both lawyers in the Territory of Orleans, over the sum of $500. Desmontils and Mazureau signed a covenant on March 11, 1805, in which they bet $500 on the judgement of a case. Desmontils bet on the emancipation two mulatto women slaves, Adelaide and Lisbourne, while Mazureau bet they would be judged slaves. File contains petition, copy of covenant, judgement, affidavit, summons, replication and two fieri facias. Petition, written by L. Moreau Lislet, claimed Mazureau won the wager. Affidavit of Desmontils sworn before Judge James Workman. On Nov. 3, 1806, Workman ruled for the plaintiff in the amount of his demand plus suit costs. Summons and fieri facias written by Thomas S. Kennedy. Second fieri facias is dated April 13, 1807.
