Description
Text, circa 1930s. Dreux Monument. History and description of the Dreux Monument in New Orleans, Louisiana. The monument was erected in the memory of Charles Didier "Charley" Dreux, organizer of the Orleans Cadets Company at the beginning of the Civil War and was the first officer from New Orleans to volunteer. Dreux was also the first Confederate officer from Louisiana killed in the war. He was killed in a battle at Newport News, Virginia on July 5, 1861. Unveiling exercises for the monument were held in 1922. Victor Holm of St. Louis designed the bust and Albert Weiblen, the pedestal.
