Text, date unknown, circa 1930s. History and description of the New Orleans Public Library. The history dates back to 1842 when a collection of books was purchased by B.F. French and opened to the people of New Orleans. The article explains the provenances of the library's older collections and buildings. All important historical figures involved in its foundations are discussed as well, including Carnegie. The main building and the six branch buildings are architecturally described with their locations and the available books, means of financial support and services to the public are documented on the final pages.
